Our Singapore Classifieds website was down for much of today as DNS settings for the website went offline due to a problem with a server. The database was not affected in any way. The DNS server returned to service by late morning.
Many parts of the world could access Singapore Classifieds since late morning.
However, Singapore users have only been able to access the website since 9.15pm today.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
A robot – twiceler — has been worming its way through Singapore Classifieds, eating up our bandwidth lately and taxing our server. It has also caused our server to log thousands of error messages daily.
This robot has the following IP ranges:
208.36.144.10, 38.99.13.121, 64.1.215.164, 64.1.215.165
We have banned these IPs from accessing Singapore Classifieds.
From searches on the Internet, we learn that this robot has also been giving similar problems to many, many other Websites.

Yesterday, four offensive ads posted by a user who registered the account on the same day were removed.
The user’s account was deleted and the email address banned from using Singapore Classifieds.
Singapore Classifieds takes a dim view of sexually explicit ads and prohibits the posting of such ads on the Web site.
While we cannot stop banned users from rejoining Singapore Classifieds using another email account, we can however continue to weed out such errant users.
We thank the user who alerted us of the aforementioned offensive ads and urge all other users of Singapore Classifieds to help us spot offensive ads.
Welcome to Singapore Classifieds’ new blog. Everybody’s been doing it — starting a blog — so we thought we should join the crowd. So, on 14 May 2007, our blog section opened for business.
Sorry for the slight disorder here. We are still building this new home. Shortly, we will populate it with categories and happenings on Singapore Classifieds. We can’t tell what this place will look like eventually as people will be coming in and out and making comments and postings as they pass through Singapore Classifieds.
Our content and layout will reflect the mood and pace of our Singapore Classifieds’ visitors. We prefer it this way — Singapore Classifieds is all about our visitors and making all of you feel welcome. That’s why, we have been offering FREE ADS since our inception.
We moved our Web site to new premises over the weekend. There were some gaffes as we moved over our database. Overall, the move was smooth though some of you might have had some trouble finding our Web site as we had to publish our new Internet address to the main Internet phonebooks around the world.
Please give us some time to get this place ready for your inputs and reading pleasures.
